SNY is on the move.
The TV home of the Mets will begin broadcasting from a new set of studios at 4 World Trade Center on Saturday night, with Geico SportsNite batting leadoff at 10:30 p.m.
The network announced its move from midtown to downtown in November, and the upgrade to 3,700 square feet of studio space took a year to design and nine months to build. In total, SNY will occupy 26,856 square feet of space on the 49th and 50th floors of the tower.
“As we began to look at prospective new locations, the downtown area and 4 World Trade Center topped our list,” SNY president Steve Raab said in a statement. “We look forward to (Saturday) night’s first broadcast and the start of an exciting new chapter at SNY.”
SNY joins a number of media companies that have relocated to downtown, and Janno Lieber, the president of World Trade Center Properties, said in November that SNY’s presence there will “shape its identity the way other media companies have used Rockefeller Center or Times Square. The new World Trade Center is fast becoming New York’s most iconic location.”
SNY will have three studios in the space — Studios 31, 41 and 42 named for Mike Piazza, Tom Seaver and Jackie Robinson — and Curt Gowdy Jr., SNY’s senior VP of production and executive producer, lauded the space as “world-class.”
Studio 41 will be the home of Mets pre- and post-game broadcasts, as well as the network’s other baseball-themed shows. Studio 31 will be the stage for SportsNite, Daily News Live and Loud Mouths. Studio 42, which offers views of Brooklyn and the East River, will be used for breaking news and one-on-one interviews.
The quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament will serve as the lead-in to SportsNite on Saturday.
